Lois Smith

I have been a teaching assistant at Walton Primary for over 18 years; a role that stemmed from my being a parent helper, both at Walton Infants and Walton Junior School. I qualified as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant in 2005 and was promoted to Lead HLTA in 2013.

During my time so far at Walton, I have worked in all key stages; from Foundation through to Upper Key Stage 2. In 2012 I was asked to work in Class 9 with Year 6 children, after working in Key Stage 1 for thirteen years, which I then did for a year. That brought new challenges for me to say the least. Then, in 2013, I moved into a Year 5 – Year 6 class where I stayed for two years. I am currently working in Class 9 with Year 6 once again where I have been for the last eighteen months and thoroughly enjoying it; still.

I believe that not only should we be teaching children academic skills, but life skills too and that children should be celebrated and allowed to shine no matter what their skills or capabilities. I have very high standards and expectations of all those who are at Walton Primary Academy including children, staff and governors.
