A proud member of

Y6 Residential

Our Year 6 residential to Robinwood Outdoor Centre at Todmorden is one of the highlights of children’s time at Walton – an opportunity to challenge themselves, build independence and make memories that last a lifetime.

During their residential, children step outside their comfort zones and take part in a wide range of exciting activities and challenges. With the support of their friends, school staff and Robinwood instructors, they develop resilience, teamwork, communication, confidence and problem-solving skills.

For many children, the residential is also an important opportunity to experience time away from home, develop greater independence and discover just how much they are capable of achieving.

Most importantly, it is great fun! From taking on new challenges to spending time with friends, our Robinwood residential provides experiences and memories that children will talk about long after they leave Walton. It is a fantastic way for our Year 6 pupils to celebrate their journey through primary school and live out our school motto: Moving Forward Together.

The Centre

The Centre

Our Year 6 residential takes place at Robinwood’s Dobroyd Castle in Todmorden, a spectacular residential activity centre set in the beautiful Pennine countryside and designed especially for primary-aged children. With specialist Robinwood instructors supporting children throughout their stay, the residential provides a safe, exciting and memorable experience, giving pupils opportunities to develop independence, overcome challenges and make lasting memories with their friends.

Comfort Zones

Comfort Zones

Outdoor education is about ‘perceived risk’, and children pushing themselves out of their comfort zone – doing things they never believed they could. Every year at the end of Y6 our children recall their memories from the year, and Robinwood is always a common theme. Children remember those moments where they achieved something they never thought they could, and stepped outside of their comfort zone to achieve something great!

Support for Parents & Children

For some children (and parents) this may be the very first time away from home. With this, may come natural anxieties about missing home, falling to sleep or being away from family. This is completely normal, and we offer a robust package of support for both parents and children to prepare for Tower Wood, and to ensure everyone has a great time! This may involve preparation sessions, programmes of work with our Learning Mentor or support from class teachers.

Inclusivity

Our trip is open to everyone, and if your child has any additional needs or requirements, just speak to us!
