A proud member of

Personal Development

At Walton, we want every child to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to live a happy, healthy and successful life. Our OneLife Personal Development programme sits at the heart of this ambition, supporting children to understand themselves, build positive relationships and make healthy choices.

Built around the principle that we only get one life, so we need to learn how to live it well, One Life provides a progressive approach to Personal Development throughout school. Children learn about their emotions, relationships, physical and mental health, resilience, safety and the wider world around them. OneLife is about much more than individual lessons. Its principles are woven through everyday life at Walton, helping us to develop confident, respectful and resilient children who understand themselves and others, are prepared for the challenges they may face, and are ready to make the most of the opportunities ahead of them.

We encourage every child to find their inner cheerleader, be themselves and thrive.

One Life, Every Day

OneLife is much more than a weekly lesson at Walton – it is part of the everyday culture and routines of our school. We want children to develop positive habits that support their wellbeing, confidence and readiness to learn, both now and throughout their lives.

Each day, children take part in age-appropriate OneLife routines, including positive affirmations, journalling and opportunities for reflection and discussion. These regular moments give children time to think about how they are feeling, recognise the positives in their lives, express their thoughts and develop a stronger understanding of themselves.

Through daily affirmations, children are encouraged to develop positive self-talk, confidence and belief in themselves. Journalling provides a safe opportunity to reflect on thoughts, feelings, experiences and aspirations, while regular mindful moments help children pause, regulate and prepare themselves for learning.

Alongside our taught curriculum, these consistent daily routines help make Personal Development something children experience and practise every day, building the emotional vocabulary, resilience, self-awareness and positive habits they need to live their one life well.
